Ofsted inspection: the provision is good

Ofsted inspected Sutton Road Nursery and judged the provision good, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

Children were happy and showed that they feel safe. They arrive ready to play with their friends, leave their parents with ease, and greet staff with news of their own. The nursery remains open Monday to Friday, all year, from 7:30am to 5:30pm, and provides funded early education for two-, three- and four-year-old children.

Level 5 hygiene awarded

Food hygiene rating 5, very good

Sutton Road was pleased to announce a Level 5 hygiene rating for the nursery kitchen, meaning your child’s health and safety are given only the very best care from the staff. It was the kitchen’s first rating, so the top mark mattered. The team believes it was deserved through hard work, and through a real commitment to training.

Term-time nursery worker

As the nursery expanded, it advertised a term-time Level 2 nursery worker post: an enthusiastic, friendly and dedicated person who enjoys being part of a happy team, with at least a level 2 qualification in childcare or social care, working in the childcare rooms as a key worker. That particular post is no longer open. Future vacancies are shared here first. To ask whether anything is currently available, email [email protected].

A new year is approaching

As the year turns towards Christmas for all who celebrate it, a new term starts at the beginning of January. It is a good time to think about when your child will be eligible to join a nursery, or to receive free funded places through the government. Even if your child is not that age yet, places fill extremely fast, so it is never too early to apply. Call Kerry or Nicola, or email [email protected].

Ofsted results are in

After the first inspection, Ofsted liked what they saw and heard and gave the nursery a Good rating. It was excellent news, and a testament to the hard work of all the staff. Many settings take a long while to reach Good. The rating gives parents and carers peace of mind that children are getting the very best of care and encouragement in these vital stages, setting them up for a happy, healthy and exciting start to their educational journey.

The nursery also thanked parents and carers. Without them, it would not be in a position to make a difference where it believes it counts. Thanks, too, to the local community and residents for looking after the nursery and making the team feel welcome on Sutton Road, and in the area in general.

Upstairs is open

The upstairs area opened at Sutton Road Nursery. Thank you to everyone who applied for the Level 3 nursery worker post; it was filled. At the time there was a very small number of places for the free entitlement for 2- and 3-year-olds, or for paid places. Free hours can be topped up. Prices are among the best, if not the best, in the area. For what is available now, use the contact page.

Additional NEF places

Since opening, the nursery has been inundated with requests for childcare places. The government provides 15 hours to all children aged 3 and 4, and started a pilot for some 2-year-olds as well. It is not available for every child, because certain criteria have to be met. These places are funded by the government and are known as NEF. Two more childcare rooms opened to accommodate a further twenty-one places. NEF hours can be topped up, so families can pay for extra childcare at very reasonable rates. Ring the office on 0161 223 8223 and ask for Nicola or Kerry.

A new childcare provider in Gorton

Hello, and welcome to Sutton Road Nursery. Manchester City Council had decided to stop offering childcare from a large number of Sure Start centres, including Gorton, Openshaw, Droylsden, Newton Heath, Levenshulme and Longsight. Private childcare is considerably more expensive than the provision the council had provided for many working families.

The nursery was set up as the nearby Sacred Heart Children’s Centre moved away from childcare. Kerry, Nicola and most of the staff stayed in an area they had deep links with, where they had been providing childcare for more than 15 years. They secured a former Sure Start building on Sutton Road, invested in equipment, and set a provisional opening of 7 October 2013.

An open afternoon was held on Saturday 28 September 2013, from 12pm until 3pm, with refreshments and stalls from local businesses. The phone number then is the phone number now: 0161 223 8223. Email [email protected].
