A day at nursery

From the first hello at 7:30am

Children leave their parents and greet the people they know. The day is busy, familiar, and shaped around play.

Opening hours

The nursery opens Monday to Friday, all year round. Sessions run from 7:30am to 5:30pm. Holiday care is part of what we offer, so the year does not stop when schools do.

Babies

From 3 months. Babies choose the toys they play with, explore messy play and sensory activities, and are helped as they pull up and find their feet. Younger children have a daily diary so parents know how the day has gone.

Toddlers

Hands washed, tables helped ready for lunch, songs, books and time outside. Staff talk with children as they play and bring in new words, including words from a child’s home language when that helps them feel secure.

Pre-school

Up to 5 years. Older children write their names, make letters to post, talk about the size and weight of parcels, set the table and serve their own food. They help decide which activities should be out.

Rooms, and the garden

The nursery works from childcare rooms inside a building that was once a Sure Start centre, with an enclosed space for outdoor play. Children ride on toys, chase bubbles and practise moving: jumping, hopping, and, for the youngest, the first unsteady steps.

In May 2014 the upstairs area opened. That expansion added a further twenty-one places. The nursery is now registered to welcome up to 55 children, and it stays a close setting rather than a vast one. Each child has a key worker.

Out in Gorton, children learn the neighbourhood they live in: a café, the post office, people who help us, and fundraising alongside local events.

Funded hours and paid places

NEF

The government provides 15 hours to all children aged 3 and 4. Some 2-year-olds can also have a funded place when they meet the criteria. These places are funded by the government and are known as NEF. We can talk you through whether you qualify.

Topping up

Free hours can be topped up with paid sessions, so you can have more childcare around work. Our prices are among the best in the area. A new term is a natural time to ask, but places fill extremely fast, so please do not wait until the last week.

For the current fee and whether there is a space, call 0161 223 8223. There is often a waiting list, and Kerry or Nicola will tell you plainly where you stand.

Settling in

You are welcome to visit before a child starts. Come and see the rooms, watch how the children are with the staff, and ask anything you need to. We would rather answer a worry on the first visit than leave it until the first morning.

Registration forms are where you tell us about health, home languages, and any diet we need to follow. After that, the key worker becomes the person who knows your child best in the room.
